We only deal with business clients and our approach to business differs from most other accountants who, through choice or necessity, focus on year-end financials and Tax Returns. Yes, these are a necessary evil and minimising tax and keeping the IRD at bay is something we are good at, but we keep on hearing that these accountants are not helpful, not bothered and don’t have the time to help their clients with those day-to-day problems that crop up in business. Year-end financials prepared many months after the year-end are absolutely useless in managing the financial side of a business.
Similarly, keeping business books on Bank Link or Bank Connect (as these accountants like to do) may just do for GST returns and may suit the accountant when it to comes to producing the year-end financials (although it never saves as much in their fees as they try and make out) but the reports they produce from either of these two software packages (as a by-product of the GST returns) are normally on a cash basis without Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable or Inventory and can therefore be totally misleading and are only suitable for a very simple, small business.
