REDUCE YOUR MOTORING COSTS

With hundreds or even thousands of dollars per year at stake, it would be a real shame not to try and cut down your motoring bill. Many are reluctant to do anything about it, primarily because they think that driving less  or getting a more economic vehicle are the only options.
Not so! The fact is, there is a lot that you can do  to start saving a lot of money right now, without having to buy a new car or get on your bike.

REDUCE YOUR ACC BILL

There's already a number of advantages with ACC Cover Plus Extra (e.g. your ACC cover can be reduced to the minimum) and one recent change is going to benefit a lot of small businesses. If the non-technical spouse receives a salary in a business which attracts a high ACC levy classification, their ACC classification can now be based upon the work they do, not the work done by the business. BUSINESS ANGELS

What do a gym and a removal business have in common? The answer is really as strange as the question: Angels, of course!
Keith and Val Gabrielle have been in business for over 15 years. Their company, Angels Removals, helps people and offices move around Hawkes Bay and beyond. As if one muscular trade wasn't enough, they decided three and a half years ago to buy a friend's fitness club. From Haven to Angels, there wasn't much of a gap, so the customer may not have noticed the change... except for the fact that they made it much better.
'We make sure that there is always someone around,' says owner Keith. 'We also have personal trainers on duty all the time, so that people get the help they need and their questions answered. We offer more classes too.'
What of the removal business?
'It's really busy at the moment,' says Keith. 'Our two crews are fully booked.'
How does he explain their popularity?
'I don't know what we do differently, but people keep telling us that we're better than the competition, so there must be something,' he laughs.

  HAPPY NEW FINANCIAL YEAR!
(BUT NOT JUST YET)

Although the new financial year is already upon us, we still need to look backwards for a little while yet. What can we  learn from the year just ended? Do we need to get  depressed by working out how much tax we have to pay? Is it too much or (sometimes worse) too little?
Here is a list of what needs to be done now  and the things to keep in mind as you do it.

In fact, Keith and Val met Nick years back, while moving his office.
'We weren't happy about our accountant then. Being with a firm means that your accounts are prepared by a new junior staff every year. You have to explain the same thing over and over again. The high fees we were paying didn't get us much more than paperwork. I said that to Nick and he replied: “You should hire me instead.” So we did and never looked back. Nick knows our business well because he's the only one involved in our accounts. He's easy to talk to and gives really good advice, especially when it comes to juggling two businesses together.'
Well done to Keith and Val for doing such a great job of it. As for myself, I now know that whenever I'll need help with a move or decide to work on my fitness, all I'll have to do is ask the Angels.

MAKING CENTS OF ADVERTISING

Apart from their outrageous cost, what do traditional methods of advertising have in common? Simple: they do not guarantee any results whatsoever.
What if there was a way to make sure that only the people who are interested in your ad see it? What if it costs cents rather than thousands of dollars? What if you could objectively monitor your campaigns with real statistics? Or even modify it as you go in order to get the best results?
Dream on, you say? Not at all. Meet Pay-Per-Click a not so new method that can still give you the leading edge on your competitors. (read more)
