HOW SAFE IS YOUR PERSONAL DATA?

With everything about us that is either stored on our computers or directly happening on the web, should we not be concerned about the safety of our information? Who sees it, who sells it, buys it or takes it regardless?
Are hackers a real threat? Can we protect ourselves from identity theft? Who knows what you buy online (or offline for that matter)?
Surprisingly, the real risk may be coming from the people who pretend to be our friends...

GST JUST GOT MORE COMPLEX

Watch out for the new 'simplified' GST rules where a business asset is going to be used privately (like a car or computer). Under the new rules, you can only claim the proportion of the GST in line with the percentage of intended business use. If circumstances change, a number of annual adjustments will be required depending upon the cost of the asset. This is going to impact virtually all businesses paying FBT for vehicles negatively.

A1 AUTO WORKS

About two years ago, Kanwaljit Singh decided to start his own business from scratch. With the recession hitting so many well-established companies, some would have called him audacious, others imprudent. Time would tell and did indeed: some well chosen advertising, quality of service, hard work and customer dedication helped build a strong reputation. The business is now well recognized and truly flourishing.
'Our main source of business is WOFs, says Kanwal, so we make sure to check every car thoroughly and provide the right safety advice to our customers. We value transparency, honesty and respect above all.'

How does a business captain manage to concentrate solely on his trade, with so many other things to take care of?
'Having Nick on board means that I don't have to worry about anything, says Kanwal. I sleep well at night because I know that he's taking care of those aspects and will offer advice where it's needed. That way, I can focus on my customers better. It's also good that I can call him with any query. He will answer all my questions and even goes out of his way to help, like when I was looking for a software workshop and he helped me find it.'

Thank you to Kanwal for demonstrating that recession or not, with the right attitude, a solid business can be built and become successful.
