'To be honest, we were a bit wary of Nick when we were first introduced to him. It’s true that we were in a bit of bother with the IRD (having hidden approx. $1.5 m sales overseas) but we didn’t believe Nick when he said that we could be open to criminal charges. As the IRD had brought in their big guns Nick said we needed specialist advice & suggested bringing in a top tax guy who would charge us 600 per hour, which we thought, was ridiculous! We sent Nick away & said we would get our existing accountant to deal with the IRD, who had suggested we fiddle our tax in the first place.
We soon found that our optimism was misplaced after the IRD raided both the house and offices of our old accountant looking for our files! After the first meeting with the IRD my business partner & I were sick with worry and on the home front my wife gave me an ultimatum - sort it out or she was history! As tempting as that was, I couldn’t afford that so Nick introduced us to this top tax guy from the capital who in turn bought in a top tax lawyer. Well, between the three of them they negotiated with the IRD such that in return for immunity from prosecution, we ended up, in the circumstances, with an excellent deal. Instrumental in securing a favourable outcome in a difficult tax situation
'Nick is an excellent accountant and has saved us valuable time and money looking after our affairs, and we can recommend him without reservation.
In particular, Nick was instrumental in achieving a very favourable outcome with a particularly difficult tax situation. Our company had been set up by a firm of Swiss lawyers as a tax scheme on behalf of the Russian owners and acted only as agent to a Bahamas based company, the idea being that the majority of the profits would be transferred to the Bahamas.
As one could expect, the Inland Revenue was not happy seeing tax disappearing out of the country and suddenly took a keen interest in our tax affairs. Nick dealt with all of the complex issues including the much-feared transfer pricing issue and in the end negotiated a minor settlement to the taxman, which allowed the group to retain the bulk of the profits. This whole episode was conducted with Nick’s normal highly pragmatic and thorough approach to the problem where all issues and potential benefits/problems were explained in full.
